Promise Me Memories and I Will Let You In
Yinka Illori Studio // Greenwich Peninsula
This Summer, London-based multidisciplinary artist, Yinka Ilori will transform Tide Square with a striking and immersive experience designed for play and reconnection. Promise me memories and I will let you in launches on 12th June with the colourful playscapes providing a joyful place for collaborative play for adults and children alike, as the capital starts to reopen after lockdown.
The Tide is unique in its riverside setting, and Ilori’s vision brings to life a space for celebration, for the community to create memories and enjoy new experiences after a tough year. At the centre, a striking stage featuring Ilori’s bold aesthetic will host a varied programme of not-to-be-missed outdoor performances from some of the capital’s leading cultural artists. From open-air live music, film screenings and talks, to community-driven radio residencies hosted by the likes of Foundation FM and Reprezent FM, the event series will be free for all to enjoy, whilst soaking up the buzzing riverside atmosphere throughout summer. The series, titled Summer Sessions, will kick off in June, opening with Jazz performances from Tomorrow’s Warriors, a collective of jazz musicians driving opportunity and diversity within the industry, and Clonmell Jazz Social, and will culminate in a live music weekend in September.
The installation is part of an ongoing programme of free experiences on the Peninsula and joins the current kaleidoscopic installation by artist Liz West currently on The Tide as the next in the series of public arts and cultural experiences that explore colour and scale, using The Tide as an evolving platform for artist exploration. Tide Square will also play host to FLOW, a new, sustainable farmers market that will take place every other Sunday starting on 2nd May curated by creative connoisseurs, Bompas & Parr.
