The Peninsulist Presents, 2020
Greenwich Peninsula
A programmed series of digital events comprising performances and talks in arts & crafts, design, gastronomy, music, film and wellness to celebrate London’s resilient spirit.
I developed a series of musical performances, interviews and film screenings which were developed as a response to COVID-19 delaying plans for Turning Tides 2020. Headline performances came from cult NYC based artist Joan As Police Woman (also featuring interviews with Meshelle Ndegeocello & John Cale), a live performance and guided meditation from musician Dan Deacon, a performance from LA based Sudan Archives, and evening of performance from Touching Bass (featuring guest performances from Project Karnak and Demae) plus a live streamed performance filmed on location in Greenwich Peninsula from Fatima.
We screened a programme of films by Black British film directors from the BFI archives, inc Pressure by Horace Ové, Burning an Illusion by Menelik Shabazz, Young Soul Rebels by Isaac Julien, Black to Techno by Jenn Nkiru, A Land So Far by Zak Ové and Maske by Vince Fraser. We also screened a double bill of films by acclaimed director John Akomfrah - Goldie: When Saturn Returnz & The Stuart Hall Project, which followed a fascinating discussion event titled ‘Tipping Point’ featuring John Akomfrah, Zak Ové & Jenn Nkiru.
